Abstract:

The Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has had a major impact on informing public opinion, as well as providing policy-makers with knowledge on the scientifi c aspects of climate change. However, action to deal with every aspect of climate change necessarily requires information that reaches out to every section of society and creates an understanding through which all stakeholders can join hands to deal with the challenge. Even though the IPCC Synthesis Report is written in a language essentially for the lay public, it may still be a bit too complex for the understanding and full comprehension of those who are not fully familiar with the subject. Consequently, there is a widespread need for organizations that are dealing with the spread of awareness on environmental and other issues in general and climate change in particular to take initiatives to inform the public.
