Climate change and agriculture in the Fifth Assessment Report

The key findings of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) with regard to agriculture are presented. The impacts of climate change on marine fisheries and agricultural crops are described. These are found to be negative at the global aggregate scale, and will  disproportionately impact on poor rural people in developing countries. Adaptation of agricultural systems to climate change has been happening and this will continue, especially when facilitated by appropriate policies. The significant contribution of the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is considered, and is reported to have been decreasing in recent years.
